New Members Strengthen CPI Board of Directors

San Juan, Puerto Rico.– The Board of Directors of the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo (CPI) has welcomed three new members whose diverse expertise will help advance its mission of strengthening investigative journalism, educating journalists and the public, and promoting transparency.

“With the social and professional backgrounds that these three new board members bring, we are confident that new avenues for growth will open up for CPI’s work,” said Executive Director Carla Minet. “Each has excelled in their respective fields of knowledge and action, and they have a strong commitment to our country and its diaspora. We are very excited about the new opportunities they bring to the direction the Center will take,” she added.

Afro-Puerto Rican writer and communicator Gloriann Sacha Antonetty, founder of Revista étnica, joins the board, bringing extensive experience as a communication strategist, professor, and entrepreneur. For over 15 years, she has worked in communications for non-profit organizations and advertising and public relations agencies. She has taught communications at the University of the Sacred Heart (USC), where she graduated, and also at the University of Turabo. She was recognized with the EnterPRize 2017 social enterprise award and the Silver Anvil from the Public Relations Society of America, as well as the Gold Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives Association of Puerto Rico. Additionally, she is a member of the collectives Las Ancestras, Poesía Afroversiva, and Ilé.

Also joining the board is Jerry Maldonado, a seasoned leader in civic engagement and programmatic strategy development. As Vice President of Programs at PolicyLink, he oversees the leadership team in advancing racial, economic, and environmental equity. With more than two decades of experience at the intersection of civic engagement, research, policy advocacy, and philanthropy, he has played a key role in developing initiatives that amplify the voice, vision, and dignity of low-income communities and communities of color, including Black and Indigenous groups.

Before PolicyLink, Maldonado served as the Director of the Cities and States Program at the Ford Foundation. He graduated from Brown University in Rhode Island and holds a master’s degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York. Jerry and his family consider New York and Santurce, Puerto Rico, their home.

From the field of journalism, Angélica Serrano Román joined the Board of Directors at the end of 2024. A Puerto Rican based in Washington, DC, she specializes in bankruptcy coverage for Bloomberg Law. Serrano Román is familiar with CPI’s work, having served in the organization in recent years as a journalist, social media and newsletter manager, fact-checker, and web editor. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of the Sacred Heart and a master’s in Business and Economic Journalism from New York University. She has been a fellow at ProPublica, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the Investigative Reporters and Editors. She currently teaches data and investigative journalism courses at USC.

The new members join a distinguished board led by President Carlos Rodríguez Vidal, an attorney; Vice President Janice Petrovich, a philanthropy consultant; Secretary Carlos E. Ramos González, a law professor; Treasurer Judith Berkan, an attorney; and entrepreneur Patricia Gutiérrez, along with CPI co-founders and journalists Oscar Serrano and Omaya Sosa Pascual.
